Hurricane Poems

Influenced by Cherry Pickman’s Theory of Tides and O Miami’s Zip Odes initiative, I am writing a poem a day for each day of hurricane season, using the rise and fall of the tides as a guide for the number of words in each line. Each 0 is the Sesame Square-esque word of the day, and often forms a kind of refrain.

The work functions as a kind of diary of a transformational period of my life, with storms always gathering on the horizon at the top of the page. I’m currently exploring publishing it unconventionally in a “Message-in-a-Bottle”-style installation that is looking for a home.
